The Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea under 23 rugby teams are preparing for their biggest game today when they go head to head for the eighth and final spot at the World Championships in Chile in April.

The Cook Islands won against PNG last year by just one point which sent them to Ireland and their first ever world tournament.

Assistant manager Massey Mateariki says confidence is high among the players especially with the election of their captain New Zealand based Alex Woonton.

"He's been drafted into the palmerston north development squad, and he comes with experience as far as leadership is concerned and that's what we are looking for."
