Fiji's ousted Prime Minister doubts interim government has will to hold 2009 elections

Fiji's ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, says he doubts the interim government has the political will to hold elections by March next year.

Fiji Live reports the comments came during a forum discussing what to expect from elections in 2009.

The forum was attended by opposition, church and civil society groups, and is believed to be the first time Mr Qarase has delivered a speech since he was deposed in 2006.

The final session of the forum, on social and economic issues, was disrupted by an alleged bomb threat.

Police evacuated the participants and the forum was brought to an early close.

The organisers have promised to gather again to complete the final session.
