Bougainville issues blunt warning after court decision acquitting so called Fijian mercenaries

The Police Minister in the Papua New Guinea autonomous province of Bougainville has issued a stark warning to people contemplating following in the footsteps of four former Fiji soldiers acquitted last week on charges of training a private army.

The four had been working for notorious money scam operator, Noah Musingku, whose u-Vistract scheme has fleeced hundreds of people.

The National Court ruled there were serious inconsistencies and deficiencies in the State's evidence.

The Bougainville Police Minister Ezekiel Massatt says if others felt the court ruling allowed them to also join Mr Musingku they would be making a big mistake.

"Let me say that not everybody has received the decision by the courts kindly. So I hope the message is getting through that not everybody on Bougainville is doing cartwheels because of the court decision and it would be foolish on the part of any Fijians to think that now the court has released our brothers that we are free to go in and do as we please, because that will be a grave mistake on their part."
