Former Samoa Pacific Games employee to be sentenced on theft charge this week

A 31 year old accounts officer in Samoa is awaiting sentence this week after pleading guilty in the Supreme Court in May last year to one count of theft as a servant and one count of falsifying accounts.

The defendant, Merita Alafau Amani, a former employee of the South Pacific Games Authority has admitted stealing some 16 thousand US dollars from her employer in November 2006.

The offence took place before the start of the South Pacific games in Samoa in September 2007.

She will be sentenced on Thursday.
