Samoa spending two days marking independence

Samoa's independence celebrations this week will see an address by the head of state Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, a longboat race and traditional entertainments.

Hundreds of guests, including foreign dignitaries, are expected to attend the celebration of 46 years of independence.

The celebration will also be the first independence day celebrations where the former prime minister, Tuiatua Tupua Tamasese Efi, will officiate in his role as head of state..

Our correspondent, Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia details the events.

"Tuesday will be the longboat regatta race, which is going to be one of the highlights of the independence celebrations. And also traditional entertainment and also the entertainment to be provided by the four groups who are going to represent Samoa in the upcoming south pacific festival of arts in American Samoa in July."
