Samoa reviews national drug policy

A draft national drug policy for Samoa has been reviewed by the Ministry of Health and various stakeholders.

Health Chief Executive Officer, Palanitina Tupuimatagi Toelupe said the draft was the result of several workshops, meetings and informal discussions.

The policy which wil be the first of its kind provides guidelines for the selection of essential drugs, storage and distribution, stock control, quality asurance, and rules for advertising.

Mrs Toelupe said a key focus of the draft policy is to ensure quality control, and provide effective services for prescribing, dispensing and consumption of pharmaceuticals.
