The Ministry of Police in Samoa has been asked by the Attorney General's office to further investigate a witness in a recent case for possible perjury.
The witness is the mother of an alleged victim in a sexual criminal case which was dismissed because of contradictory evidence by both the mother and her daughter during a retrial last week.
The presiding judge at the retrial, Vui Clarence Nelson, said the court would not able to unravel the truth of what had happened because of the contradictory evidence.
The accused, Laulu Mohammed Daniel Stanley, was found not guilty of charges of carnal knowledge and indecent assault as a result.
In a 2006 assessor trial, he was found guilty of indecently assaulting the underage victim.
