Rise in dengue cases in American Samoa

American Samoa's Department of Health has reinforced its campaign to persuade residents to step up cleaning efforts around their homes, as cases of dengue in the territory increased to 51 so far this year.

Health Department medical director Dr. Ivan Tuliau says about 40 plus cases occurred in the last three weeks, not long after American Samoa hosted the 10th

Festival of the Pacific Arts in July.

Tuliau says health officials are very worried that dengue cases have increased although thereis still hope the numbers will stay below the 109 cases reported last year.

Tuliau says there is a major dengue outbreak in the egion with an increased number of cases cases reported in other countries in the region.
