Qarase to go into Fiji political talks with open mind

9:21 pm on 15 October 2008

Fiji's ousted Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has welcomed an indication by the Interim prime minister that he hopes to initiate a political forum by the end of the month.

He believes talks among all political parties would be a positive development which his SDL party supports are eager to commence.

Mr Qarase says his party intends to join the forum with an open mind to what other stakeholders would bring to the table.

"An early election would be top of our list. We have other items that we would like to include on the agenda. We will also wait for items suggested by other parties and from the government itself on the basis of their proposals. We may have some counter proposals or items to go along with the items that they propose."

However Laisenia Qarase's SDL insists that changes to the constitution cannot be made by an interim administration.
