American Samoa's only public library has been closed after it was broken into and vandalized.

KHJ News reports that beer bottles were broken and thrown around the building, and books and important papers were strewn all over the floor.

Acting Commissioner of Public Safety, Filifaatali Mike Fuiava, says police are investigating the break-in.

Police say the culprits took off with a small cash box and a radio.

It's not known if there was any cash in the stolen box.
