The Red Cross in Fiji says the biggest worry for many communities left homeless by flooding is their food and water supply.
At least six people are reported to have died.
The Red Cross disaster relief manager Vuni Gauna says thousands of people on the coast of Viti Levu have had to be evacuated from flooded towns .
He says the destruction of food gardens is devastating and will take those affected a long time to recover.
"Well flooding is a disaster because it threatens not only the food supply but the livelihood for several months or a long duration of period for the communities that are affected by floods because there's people who've been solely rely on crops and as you know crops do not survive very long when they've been exposed or damaged by floods."
Vuni Gauna says helping people to get fresh water is another priority to prevent people getting water borne diseases.
He says for Nadi town it's already been estimated that more than 11.5 million US dollars worth of damage has been done to the business sector alone.
