The office of Samoa's Lands and Titles Court has confirmed a petition has been filed against the bestowal of one of Samoa's paramount matai titles on the Minister of Women's Affairs, Fiame Naomi Mata'afa.

The challenge comes from a musician and singer, Toluma'anave Misiluki Su'a.

The Faumuina title was reported to have been given to her secretly last month in the village of Lepea where she was brought up during her father's tenure of the title.

Fiame Naomi's father was Mata'afa Faumuina Mulinuu II, the first Prime Minister after independence in 1962.

The last holder of the paramount title, Faumuina Anapapa, was a member of the Council of Deputies or Deputy Head of State before he passed away.
