The flooding of Sasa river in Solomon Island's Northwest Guadalcanal last week is thought to have resulted in death and widespread damage to villages and homes.

The National Disaster management office says they are not yet in a position to confirm the deaths but says that at least ten people are still missing.

The office says at Takaboru village, 8 homes were swept away by the floods.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says the Disaster Office sent an Initial Situation Overview team to the area and confirmed widespread damage to homes, property and food gardens.

The Disaster Management Office urged people living along major rivers to keep a good look out or move to safer grounds as rain is predicted to continue.
