PNG/Indonesia border remains closed

12:35 pm on 5 August 2009

The border between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea is to remain closed following last month's shooting incidents in Papua's Freeport area.

The Indonesian Antara news agency says according to the Indonesian military both countries have agreed to close the border to anticipate possible undesired happenings.

The closure is also claimed to anticipate the possibility of foreign interference in the incidents.

The Indonesia-PNG border had been closed since Indonesia's presidential election on July the 8th.
