Firefighters in New Caledonia's capital have threatened to strike from Thursday over a range of grievances.
Radio New Caledonia reports that it is the third such warning by the main firefighters' union this year which has been seeking a better promotion of local staff.
The radio says the union wants pay scales upgraded and the firefighters' Noumea premises renovated to take into account the fact that women have joined the service.
The Noumea administration has taken note of the concern but says promotions must be based on qualifications.
