The French newspaper Le Monde says two Tahiti-based investigative judges are still trying to find out more about the financial affairs of the former French President Jacques Chirac and reported transfers from French Polynesia and Japan.
Two missions have been made to Japan in a bid to shed light on the alleged links dating back to the mid-1990s.
This is also tied to an investigation into the 1997 disappearance of a Tahitian journalist, Jean Pascal Couraud, who had reportedly obtained information about financial link-ups also involving the then French Polynesian president Gaston Flosse.
Despite the investigations, the politicians in question have dismissed the reports, with one of Mr Chirac's advisers saying it is unacceptable that slander and fantasies continue to fuel judicial procedures.
