Fiji delays the start of school by an hour over daylight saving concerns

2:07 pm on 19 February 2010

Fiji schools are to start an hour later from next week.

The interim Education Minister, Filipe Bole, says the changes had to be made because daylight saving is affecting some children who have to prepare for school while it is still dark.

The Fiji Live website reports Mr Bole saying this is a particular issue for people who have to travel some distance to school.

Daylight saving began at the end of November and will run until April the 25th.
