The United States Department of Transportation has awarded 1.6 million US dollars for the rehabilitation of a taxiway at Pago Pago International Airport in American Samoa.

The territory's acting governor, Faoa Sunia, says the funds will be used to enhance the safety of aircraft operations and to meet FAA airport design standards.

He says work affects the main taxiway used by aircraft at the airport.
