The co-ordinator of the Vanuatu Women's Centre says a funding boost from Australia will help the growing number of women experiencing physical, sexual and emotional violence.
The announcement of the five million US dollar grant, to be spread over four years from next July, follows the launch of the centre's report on the level of violence against women in Vanuatu.
It shows that 60 percent of women have experienced some form of physical and sexual violence, with a further 68 percent experiencing emotional violence.
Merilyn Tahi says the money will cover the centre's operational costs for the next four years.
"We are seeing an increasing number of women coming forward, they know about our services, they know that they have rights to deal with all this violence and they're coming forward."
Merilyn Tahi says the money will fund the provision of core services such as counselling as well as community education programmes.
