Cooks arrest warrant for former New Zealand police officer

1:05 pm on 21 November 2011

An arrest warrant has been issued in the Cook Islands for a former New Zealand police officer, Mark Franklin.

Mr Franklin was due in court last week when 11 bailed defendants were called in a case following the country's biggest ever drugs bust in May.

Mr Franklin, who also served with the Cook Islands police force, has been charged with four counts of possessing and selling cannabis in Rarotonga.

He has yet to enter a plea.

One of the defence lawyers has said there was entrapment in relation to police obtaining evidence by using undercover officers.
