2:28 pm on 19 January 2012

The Cook Islands parliament is expected to sit for the first time this year in mid February, although its clerk Nga Valoa says that has not yet been confirmed.

In February last year, the Prime Minister Henry Puna announced his intention for parliament to sit for at least 100 days in 2011.

However, it sat for 21 days only.

The most important agenda item for members of parliament in the upcoming sitting is likely to be the supplementary budget .

Cook Islands News says the supplementary budget is expected to include a submission from the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee for extra funding.
