The Samoa government is considering deporting the manager of Singapore Motors, a Pakistani man found guilty of more than 20 counts of theft in January.
Arshed Fareed is due to be sentenced on the 12th of this month, but Prime Minister Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi says he has been advised the defendant be deported.
Tuila'epa says this would save public funds if the man is sentenced to jail
The government's move comes after a Nigerian man was deported last year after successfully sueing the government's immigration and the Ministry of Police.
William Okoro was rewarded compensation of more than 50 thousand US dollars but that does not include the cost of his deportation, which was also covered by the public purse.
The prime minister says the government does not want a repeat of this case for which public funds had been wasted because of police carelessness in the performance of their duties.
