Vanuatu's acting police commissioner is refusing to comment on injuries two escaped prisoners received during their arrest.

Police have arrested two more of the seven high-risk prisoners who have been on the run after a series of break-outs.

About 50 people have been arrested on suspicion of harbouring the escapees.

The acting commissioner, Arthur Caulton, says he has not received a report from the commander of the investigation, so he can not comment on reports of injuries.

"It is normal under circumstances where we knew that the prisoners were armed, it's normal that we receive the assistance of the minister responsible, when there's a need to arm the officers."

Arthur Caulton says it is believed the remaining four escapees are in still in the capital, Port Vila.
