Papaun regions look to become provinces to stimulate development

In Indonesia three regions in Papua and one in West Papua are looking to become new provinces in the hope of reversing sluggish development under former and current administrations.

The Jakarta Post reports that petitioners have urged the Papuan Consultative Assembly to issue a recommendation approving their formation.

An MRP special autonomy committee member, Samual Waromi says they have received four proposals to form new provinces in Papua and the MRP is considering the feasibility of a split.

The four proposed provinces are named South Papua, Central Papua, while Papua could becomee Teluk Cendrawasih and West Papua could become North West Papua.
