Fiji's ousted prime minister Laisenia Qarase is on bail awaiting sentencing after being found guilty of corruption-related charges in a Suva court.

Justice Priyantha Fernando concurred with assessors' findings yesterday that the 72 year old is guilty of all nine charges against him.

The Suva High Court was packed and hundreds waited outside the capital's Government Buildings in anticipation of the ruling.

Qarase has been found guilty of six charges of abuse of office, and three charges relating to discharge of duty as a public servant.

The veteran politician has been told to report daily to police with sentencing due in the next day or so and a mitigation hearing on Wednesday.

The charges brought by Fiji's Independent Commission Against Corruption relate to Qarase's time as Managing Director of the Fiji Development Bank in the early 1990s.
