The Samoa Medical Council has suspended one of the most high profile and senior doctors from the profession.

The Council unanimously reached the decision to suspend Le Mamea Dr Emosi Puni, after he was found guilty last month for one count of indecently assaulting a pregnant mother seven years ago.

The Council's secretary, Leituala Dr Ben Matalavea, says the suspension is a move to maintain public trust in their profession and to make sure the local medical practitioners uphold high standards, and follow ethics and procedures in their duties.

Le Mamea Dr Emosi Puni is appealing the supreme court guilty verdict.
