Samoa official highlights remaining issues for RSE workers

Seasonal workers from Samoa need support, especially in communication and completing documents.

That is the view of the principal officer of Samoa's regional seasonal employment scheme, Fitu Fuimaono.

He has told a meeting of Pacific Island countries participating in the New Zealand and Australian seasonal employment schemes that Samoan workers are fortunate to have large support communities in both countries.

But Mr Fuimaono says the two areas in where they need the most help are communication and the filling in of official documents.

He told the meeting the Samoa government has a zero tolerance policy for any misbehaviour by workers.

Recently, Samoa endorsed a two-to-four-year penalty for the home village of any worker who breaks the employment agreement or the law while in Australia or New Zealand.
