Citizenship for foreign investors up for debate in Samoa

A bill proposing Samoan citizenship for foreign investors after three years is to be introduced to the country's parliament today, the last sitting for the year.

The Citizenship Investment Bill 2014 is among four bills to be introduced in today's sitting.

The Public Bodies Amendment Bill 2014 establishes a new body to oversee all state owned enterprises, with its own CEO.

Currently SOEs come under Treasury.

The Ports Authority Amendment Bill 2014 legalizes the transfer of the wharfs at Mulifanua and Salelologa from the Samoa Ports Authority to the Samoa Shipping Corporation.

The transfer was made in June and the bill introduced today would make it official .

The government is also to introduce a supplementary budget bill for 2014.
