Dengue outbreak in Tonga

Another outbreak of dengue fever has been reported in Tonga, mainly in the central areas of the main island of Tongatapu.

Dr Reynold 'Ofanoa from the Ministry of Health told Radio Tonga that there have been 46 cases of dengue fever in the country this year after none in 2013.

Most of those affected are adults and infants.

He says it is vital the public destroys the habitat of mosquitoes, including water filters and places that can capture water.

The highest recorded level of dengue fever in Tonga was in 2008 and 2009 when more than 300 cases occurred.
