Samoa support group celebrates milestone

2:35 pm on 11 March 2015

The Samoa Victim Group has praised judges, politicians and the community as it celebrates ten years of voluntary service to victims of violence and sexual abuse.

To mark the milestone, the group will hold a global conference for members, which include people from American Samoa, New Zealand, and Australia.

The President, Siliniu Lina Chang, says there is still room for improvement, such as working on the group's relationship with the police.

Ms Chang says one of the old, but renovated police buildings in Apia has been given to them to use.

She says the house has been the subject of a heated exchange between the group and the Ministry of Police, but the Government has decided to grant a lease on the land and the two-storey building for twenty years.

The premises will be officially opened this week by the prime minister.
