FBC News reports that Sonal Singh was assaulted by the president of the university's students association, Whitlam Saeni, for a report about the auditing of one of its affiliated body's finances.

Mr Singh, the editor of Wansolwara, says he was assaulted by Mr Saeni outside the campus library for raising his voice about what is going wrong.

However, Mr Saeni denied allegations of assault, saying he tried to correct Mr Singh about an article which was not verifed and which used his photograph without permission.

The university has confirmed that has received a complaint and was investigating.
