An indigenous group in the Northern Marianas says the construction of the new casino is on an ancient Chamorro burial site and the company must stop building immediately.
The Council of Chamorro says the area hosts significant cultural and historical meaning and was the site of an ancient village around 1000 years ago.

The founder of the group, Liana Hofschneider, has written to the Department of Public Lands, asking it to find an alternate location for the casino and hotel.
Best Sunshine International won a licence to build the 14-storey, 254-room, and six-villa complex on the more than 19,000-square-meter mix of private and public land it has leased.
