Phoenix game 'big opportunity' for aspiring Fiji footballers

12:48 pm on 27 June 2015

Fiji striker Roy Krishna says matches against the Wellington Phoenix are a big opportunity for local football players to press their case for a trial with the A-League club.

The 27 year old will play for Fiji in both games against his club team, beginning this afternoon in Suva.

The Fiji Olympic team will also play two matches against a Phoenix academy side and Krishna says it's a chance for Pacific players, and even himself, to prove a point.

There is big, huge talent back at home, we just need someone to come out and look for them. This is a great opportunity for the young ones to show their talent and hopefully they can interest Ernie and get a trial at Phoenix. Both teams are very important for me [and] I'm just going there to share my talent - not only for the coaches but also to Ernie to get my spot in the starting eleven. It's a new season and there will be new players so I have to prove a point to get in the squad but I just enjoy myself.

Following today's matches the teams will play again in Ba on Tuesday.
