One of the men convicted of murdering the Iranian asylum seeker Reza Barati at the Manus Island processing centre has been recaptured by Papua New Guinea police.
Joshua Kaluvia escaped from prison late last month, although PNG police claim they weren't informed until last week.
Kaluvia is yet to be sentenced but according to police was convicted for the death of Iranian man Barati, who was killed during a wave of unrest at the detention centre in February 2014.
It is not clear when he was convicted, as his case is still believed to be before the courts.
Police have now issued a statement saying Kaluvia has been recaptured.
Kaluvia and another PNG man charged of Barati's death have repeatedly argued their innocence amid claims that some expatriate guards were also involved in the death.
Reports from PNG indicate police have sought two expats over the fatal beating but have been unable to get them back into the country for questioning.
The Manus centre houses asylum seekers from countries like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka who tried to reach Australia by boat but were taken for offshore processing,
