More delays in Vanuatu for new Police chief

6:33 am on 2 September 2016

The Supreme Court in Vanuatu has stopped the replacement of Api Jack Marikembo as chairman of the Police Service Commission until his application for a judicial review is completed.

Local media reports Justice James Geoghegan saying he will be able to hear the application on October 19th.

Mr Marikembo filed his application for a review on July 12th, just a month after his appointment to the job was revoked by the Head of State.

The injunction has so far prevented the Police Service Commission from undertaking its role of vetting candidates for police commissioner.

That role has already been vacant for more than two years.
