Ten groups or less than a third of Papua New Guinea's political parties were paid more than US$391,000 this week for complying with relevant Organic laws.

The Post Courier reports the Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party and the United Resources Party were among 23 political parties that had not submitted their financial returns for 2015 and were not paid their party funds in Port Moresby.

Registry of Political Parties Board chairperson, Orovu Sepoe said it is a requirement by law for all political parties to submit their annual financial returns by March 21 annually.

She said 13 political parties out the 34 registered political parties submitted their returns but three were late submissions.

Dr Sepoe said it is a must for the return to be submitted to the political parties and candidates and failure to do so will result in the party being cancelled or deregistered.
