The Cook Islands tourism industry is hoping for a boost from Air New Zealand using bigger planes.

One of Air New Zealand's Dreamliners made its inaugural visit to Rarotonga last week.

The aircraft replaces the 777 and is set to operate on Cooks/Los Angeles route until March next year.

Cook Islands Tourism Industry Council president Sue Fletcher-Vea said the bigger aircraft, with a capacity of 290 people, would help boost visitors during the low season.
