CNMI foreign worker bill passes

3:36 pm on 2 February 2017

Legislation to increase the number of foreign workers in the CNMI has again passed the US House of Representatives.

Gregorio Sablan's bill increasing foreign worker numbers to 15,000 for the coming financial year was reintroduced in January.

It passed the House last year but wasn't acted on by the Senate.

The measure needs to be passed for 5,000 CNMI-only transitional workers to be able to continue to work and stay in the territory.

The bill, which Mr Sablan re-introduced in the first session of the US Congress last month, looks to increase the limit of CW-1 workers from 12,998 to 15,000.
