The Fiji opposition says it is out of order for Fiji to stage a grand welcome home for its delegation that co-hosted the COP23 climate change meeting in Bonn.

The iTaukei Affairs permanent secretary, Naipote Katonibua, said $US16,600 had been allocated for events at Suva's Albert Park this Friday to welcome home prime minister Frank Bainimarama and his delegation of 50.

But the shadow minister for the environment, Niko Nawaikula, said it was not only unnecessary, it was undeserving of anything and a misplaced priority.

He said it was not clear what the COP23 team achieved to deserve such a celebration.
