Fijian golfer Sam Lee has slipped seven shots off the pace with a round to play in the final stage of the PGA Tour of Australasia Qualifying School, south of Melbourne.

Lee went into the third round at Moonah Links with a one shot lead but carded a disappointing three over par 75 to slip to a share of third place.

The 27 year old was one under for the day through his first five holes before back to back bogeys dented his progress.

New South Welshman Aaron Townsend surged into the overall lead after shooting a bogey free seven under 65 to reach 13 under par.

"Like I've played the last two days I just hit it right where I wanted to a lot of the time and I made some nice putts today," he said.

"It's sort of funny, the golf course I haven't had much success in the past but I'm just plodding my way around nicely."

Aaron Townsend is one shot clear of Jordan Mullaney, with Sam Lee among three golfers a further six shots behind at six under par.
