RNZ Music is proud to present the WWE-inspired new lyric video from Duedin five-piece Summer Thieves. ‘Rey Mysterio’ is the last track from their latest EP Bandaids and Lipstick, which came out in July.
Summer Thieves started life in Dunedin when singer and guitarist Jake Barton and drummer Johnny Ward began playing together in high school at the age of 15.
Bass player Adam Spencer joined in 2011 and the band started playing Dunedin Scarfie parties and covers gigs. They quickly became crown favourites, picking up a couple of new members along the way - Izzy Bones on keys and guitar and Jarni Blair on lead guitar.
In 2017 Summer Thieves teamed up with award-winning multi-instrumentalist and producer Tiki Taane, for their debut album Warped. Since then the band has sold out headline tours and become regulars at festivals including Rhythm & Vines, Bay Dreams, Rhythm & Alps and Raglan’s Soundsplash.
Bandaids and Lipstick epitomises Summer Thieves' unique fusion of roots, pop, rock and hip-hop.
