9:20 Huhu grubs could be the food of the future

Huhu grubs are the larvae of the huhu beetle and were a prized traditional food source for Maori who ate them raw. These days they are a bit out of favour - but a recent study may change that. For the first time, the nutritional value of huhu grubs has been assessed. Joining us to share the findings is lead author of the study, Ruchita Rao Kavle who is a Food Science PhD student at the University of Otago

10:00 30 years of the Auckland Marathon

This weekend The ASB Auckland Marathon will be celebrating its 30th anniversary on the 23rd of January. Postponed from its original date, the 2021 marathon will once again offer participants the chance to run or walk over the Auckland Harbour Bridge and take in the best views of the city. The first version of the Auckland Marathon was held in June 1936, but it wasn't until 1992 when the Harbour Bridge was first incorporated, becoming the first sports event to cross the iconic landmark. We're joined today by Rendell McIntosh, the Co-Founder of the Auckland Marathon Company who fought for a year and a half to incorporate the crossing - an experience that's been an integral part of the event ever since.
