Respite from Marlborough's record-breaking dry spell

8:19 pm on 25 January 2016

After a record-breaking dry spell, Marlborough has received more rain so far this year than for the last three months of 2015.

A District Council weather and water update says light rain forecast for this week will offer further respite from this summer's hot, dry conditions.

Last year was the driest in Marlborough since records began in 1930.

The council said while there had been a significant rise in the Wairau Aquifer levels, they remained extremely low and water supply was still not back to normal.

People were being asked to continue saving water, because cuts may need to be reintroduced if there was more dry weather.
