Maori Party welcomes Budget

The Maori Party, a support partner of the Government, said the Budget secured more than $200 million for Maori initiatives.

This included more money for Maori education and the social service delivery programme, Whanau Ora.

Co-leader Pita Sharples said the party has managed by sitting at the Government table to secure gains for Maori and avoid some losses.

He told Parliament there would be measures in the Budget that would disappoint the party's supporters, but there were also significant gains.
