Kathmandu is expecting strong profit growth in the first half of its financial year, as its sales soar in Australia.

The outdoor clothing and equipment retailer said same store sales grew 6% to $166 million, and it now expects a profit of between $9.5 million and $10.5 million, compared to $6 million last year.

Chief executive Peter Halkett says it plans to almost double the number of stores in Australia.
