Seek says new job ads increased by 3.9% in the year to January compared to the same time last year.
The online jobs advertiser said Auckland and Canterbury led the growth, with increases of around 2.5% from the last month, while new job ads declined in Wellington, down 1.9%.
Seek said the seasonally adjusted data reflects an annual pattern of increased hiring at the start of the year.
The Seek Employment Index, which measures the ratio of new job ads placed on SEEK to the number of applications received for those jobs, fell by 0.6% in January, signalling that job applications grew at a greater rate than new jobs last month.
