Waikato lines company extends smart network

WEL Networks, the electricity lines company serving the Waikato, has signed an agreement with Top Energy and SmartCo to extend its smart network.

The company will extend the network to customers on Top Energy's 5500 kilometre network.

WEL will install 25,500 smart meters in the homes and businesses of Top Energy customers.

The meters will be owned by WEL, replacing meters currently owned by Contact Energy.
