An Eastern Bay of Plenty economic development agency which is being wound up achieved some good results, its transitional chair says.
Toi EDA was set up to support and develop industry, advocate for improved infrastructure and to encourage alignment with Maori economic development activities.
But after consultation with the mayors of Whakatane, Opotiki and Kawerau district councils, along with Te Runanga o Ngati Awa, its the board decided to wind it up by the end of this year.
Former finance minister Sir Michael Cullen, who is the agency's transitional chair, says having only one iwi active in the agency was not ideal but despite that, the agency had achieved some good results.
It would now work to develop a concept for an alternative economic development organisation in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
