International travel numbers up at Auckland airport

Auckland International Airport Ltd says international passenger numbers were up 7.8% in August from the same month last year. International travel by New Zealand residents through the airport rose 11.9%.

Overall, total passenger numbers were up 8.1% in August although year-earlier figures were impacted by the pull-out of Aerolineas Argentinas, Royal Brunei and the Qantas to Los Angeles route.

The airport company says visitor arrivals from Indonesia jumped 47.4% and visitors from Malaysia were up 26.7%, driven by holiday travel during the Eid festive season.

Indonesian arrivals in August were a record and provide evidence that targeted marketing campaigns on luxury websites and through social media are succeeding.
