Industry group dismisses platinum prospecting fears

A mining industry group is dismissing fears about platinum prospecting.

Some conservation groups are critical of the Government for opening nearly 400,000 hectares of South Island land to tenders for platinum exploration.

But the mining industry group Straterra says even if a deposit is found, there would not be widespread damage to the environment.

Straterra also rejects concerns that proposed changes to the Resource Management Act would lower standards for environmental protection.
